No Service Project: old news

Do You Enjoy Non-Flammable Drinking Water? - November 12, 2011

Do you live in the Northeast portion of the U.S.? How are you enjoying your tap water? Well, if it's not up to your standards, no worries! The Delaware River Basin Commission (DRBC) will be voting on November 21st to approve a plan that is going to add plastics, carcinogens, neurotoxins, and endocrine disrupting chemicals into our watersheds. If that doesn't impress you, just wait until you are able to light your water on fire directly out of your faucet!

Believe it or not, this is actually happening. Here in Pennsylvania, Governor Tom Corbett is one of many who have been pushing to start natural gas drilling (20,000 GAS WELLS!) all throughout the Delaware River Basin which will potentially contaminate clean water which is used in Trenton, Philadelphia, South Jersey and part of NYC's watershed system. In total the Delaware River provides water to FIFTEEN MILLION (15,000,000) PEOPLE.

In order to extract the natural gases from the river basin, natural gas companies inject millions of gallons of water laced with toxic chemicals at high pressures to break apart rock and release gas from underground formations. They've already leased over 200,000 acres that border the Delaware River and it's tributaries. In addition to the inherent water contamination, this method -- called "hydraulic fracturing"-- will also pollute the air, cause land-scarring, demand miles of pipeline to be built, depend on massive amounts of truck traffic, and have a high risk of blowouts and spills all throughout the region. Oh, and don't forget, YOUR WATER WILL BE FLAMMABLE. Though, to be fair, that should help with any constipation you may have been experiencing.

What to do? Ok, well as of right now there are two important steps to put pressure on the DRBC to make them stop this industrial destruction of our homeland and water supplies.

Number one: CALL PEOPLE. Not just your friends and family to inform them, but call public officials.

The Army Corps of Engineers can be reached at 703-697-4672. Tell Jo Ellen Darcy (Obama's rep on the DRBC) that you will hold President Obama accountable for the vote.

Delaware Governor Jack Markell hasn't made any definite stance on hydraulic fracturing as of yet, so call his ass encourage him to VOTE NO. He can be reached at 518-474-8390.

Even though Governor Tom Corbett has made up his douchey mind already, and has expressed immense support to poison our water, I would also advise calling him at 717-787-2500 and let him know that he's a horrible governor for his stance on hydraulic fracturing. (You can also remind him that he is generally a douche bag multiple times throughout your phone call.) You can also email him: Governor@pa.gov

The second action you can take is to protest. I know... most of you have jobs, school, and hectic schedules. I also know you'd rather spend your free time comfortably doing things you enjoy, because I'm the same way. However, there has to be a point where we start to stand up for ourselves publicly and join together to stop rich assholes from perpetuating the awfulness of our lives. If you don't think your life is awful, just wait until your insides bleed out of your ass from contaminated water.

I did my best to summarize this really huge and extremely important issue. If you want a much more in depth look at the potential threats of natural gas drilling and hydraulic fracturing ("fracking"), check out savethedelawareriver.com. I would also highly recommend watching the award-winning documentary called Gasland. It goes above and beyond to show you the dangers of this pending ecological catastrophe and damnation of public health.

One last note that I'd like to add is that of course as free-market Republicans, they are going to defend themselves by saying that there will be agencies that will monitor the entire process and that this will create countless jobs. Remember BP's oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico? They too had agencies monitoring their process. There were tons of spills worldwide before that, that STILL have yet to be corrected and have destroyed the ecosystem in numerous areas. All of which had agencies monitoring the processes. The problem is that, often times the agencies are private companies created and/or selected by the gas and oil companies themselves. There's a high probability or corruption and a low chance at accountability when fuck-ups DO occur.

As for creating jobs, why not create jobs by constructing a better public transportation infrastructure in our country? It's a lot better for the environment and much more sustainable for the employees and local residents that are directly effected. The U.S. is FAR behind in public transportation. I wonder if it has anything to do with private investments in oil companies?

Occupy Oakland - Police Brutality - October 26, 2011

Hopefully all of you are at least following the Occupy movement that has been growing exponentially since September. Joe and I have been down to City Hall here in Philly to lend our support in numbers, music, and supplies as much as possible over the last few weeks and I must tell you that until you are actually there experiencing it first hand, you cannot truly grasp the spirit of this incredible movement. Mainstream media has been behaving typically, and by that I mean shamefully, ever since the first few days of protest on Wall Street in New York.

As expected, several Occupy camps have been raided by police under the guise of public safety risks. In almost every single invasion, the police have been putting the safety of the peaceful protesters and sometimes uninvolved bystanders at extreme risk. In the past few days, the Oakland Police Department was ordered by the police chief and Mayor Jean Quan to remove protesters from their camp in center city Oakland by use of tear gas canisters, rubber bullets and bean bag projectiles after they refused to leave voluntarily.

For more up to date and honest coverage of the Occupy movement please use Democracy Now! You can also get more information about Occupy Wall Street and the Occupy Movement at occupywallst.org and occupytogether.org.

No matter what your political beliefs are, there is absolutely no excuse for the excessive force being used by certain police officers in many different cities around the world. It is important that we spread this information exposing these corrupt service men and women who are blatantly abusing their power. "Just doing my job" and "just following orders" are not valid defenses anymore. You are a human being. Stop using violence against peaceful protesters.

Here is just one of many videos that literally had me at a loss for words this morning:

In Solidarity,

Adam

...and so it is written. - September 23, 2010

Hello gladiators.

On behalf of my cohorts and myself, I'd like to apologize for canceling our performances in New Jersey and Delaware last weekend. It was a situation that was out of my personal control, but rest assured I'll be setting up rain-dates.

To be perfectly honest, I'm glad we have some time without giggin' because we can finally rock together and actually work on new music. For the past year and a half we've been playing constant catch-up in order to prepare for shows. I'm over it.

What to expect? I don't have a clue. EP, LP, similarities or progression...who knows...

No matter what, you'll be hearing more from me in the near future. Summer's over. Thank god. I feel like I lose my mind every year around the same time and finally recollect in the Fall.

Listen to experience.hold., Mad Conductor and Stupid Stupid Henchmen.

Return to Paper on Vinyl - August 25, 2010

Hey Cupcake,

So I'm trying to get an idea of how many people are interested in getting our last E.P., "Return to Paper" on vinyl. We only pressed 1,000 CDs of the album and I still have a closet full of them.

That's not to say people haven't been buying the record though. Our MP3/iTunes sales have definitely helped us kick some debt. So to those of you who financially support DIY bands and BUY records/merch, hey thanks! ;)

So we were talking about how cool it would be to actually have the album art all blown up and huge to accompany a warm sounding (and oh so fashionably vintage) vinyl record. We want a few for ourselves to hang on our walls and let our egos run wild. Maybe I'll impress some hot hipster chick and get laid...

Stop laughing at me.

So what do you say? Do you even have a record player? I'll sell you my old one for 20 bucks. Interested? Let us know in the "Be Heard" section to your left.

By the way, I just turned 25 and I'm moving to Philly next week.

PEACE!
ADAM

Welcome Back - June 26, 2010

Our original bass player, Joe Conrad has officially rejoined the band and two shows have been confirmed for July.

We would like to thank Danny Sadler for being and incredible friend and a huge help to us over the past several months. We wish him the best of luck in art school.

-NO SERVICE PROJECT

Full Band - January 18, 2010

We're starting off the new year with strong ambition and increasing momentum. Our personal friend and professional affiliate, Mr. Dillon Reichel will be joining us as our fifth member, covering synth and keys. It feels great to be hanging out with him and Danny again, as I haven't seen much of either of them since our last tour together when all three of us were playing in The Mad Conductor. Dillon is incredibly talented on multiple instruments. We're both lucky and happy to have him on board.

At practices, we've been hard at work building the band stronger than it has ever been before. Our current focus is to solidify an amazing live set to perform in as many places as possible over the next few months. Since Drew and Dillon are college students, I'll have to carefully plan distant tour dates around spring break and the summer months.

If you would like us to play in your town, please get in touch!

I don't want to waste any time traveling to innocuous towns where hipster kids couldn't care less. We want to come hang out with our friends and play our music for you. You're the reason we're doing this.

I'll be announcing our first official return show soon. Keep an eye out, and spread the word.

No Service Project is here.

Your friend,
Adam

Be Heard - December 12, 2009

A new feature is now available on NoServiceProject.com that allows you to interact with the band and other friends that dig NSP music. In the menu directly below the News section, you'll see a new page titled "Be Heard." This page will allow you to post your thoughts and comments about the current news update directly to our website.

I feel this is beneficial because you won't need to log in to a Facebook or MySpace account in order to leave a comment. [Those] websites tend to collect your personal information and use it for marketing purposes. Our website doesn't. We also don't bombard you with advertisements of ANY sort. I personally despise advertisements with a raging passion; even if it IS just a banner on the top of your profile. To me, that's wasted mind space.

Try it out! We love hearing from you.

Your friend,

Adam

p.s.

Your email address will NOT be displayed online. It's just used to make sure you're a legit poster.

Back In Action - December 4, 2009

I'm way past stoked to inform you that our long time friend and musical ally, Danny Sadler will be joining us on bass for a while. You may know him from The Mad Conductor, Perkasie or even Blimp Attack (if you're old school like my ass).

Not only am I pumped to be playing as a full band again, but the idea of having such a sick bass player and good friend of ours standing in, makes me feel like Henry Rollins: invincible.

Seriously, this kid is "shit your pants and eat it-good."

We'll be announcing some shows and tour dates over the next few weeks.

Your friend,
Adam

Need To Know Basis - November 20, 2009

Hello soggy tits. I figured I would take a moment out of what is turning out to be a kick ass Friday, to fill you in on what's going down in the land of service-lacking operations.

For starters, Toilet Fridge Song.

Second, progress on our new rehearsal space has been slightly delayed due in part to a lack of time. I'm very fortunate to have a job right now and I've been taking advantage of any extra hours I can put in so I can turn the heat on next month, and buy my nephew a rad Christmas present.

We have some brand new songs that we've been working on, even though the writing process has been drastically slowed. Only having three members of a five piece band makes musical arrangements slightly more challenging to create. We've jammed with a few cool musicians, but we are still keeping our options open at this point. You can probably expect a new E.P. before a live performance, but some sick NSP music, both live and recorded is on the way.

Have an awesome weekend.

Your friend,
Adam

"Toilet Fridge Song" - November 15, 2009

You have been so awesome to us over the past few months. You've been patient, understanding, supportive and encouraging. This is just one small way for us to say, "Thanks."

"Return To Paper" Available NOW - April 4, 2009

Our new E.P., "Return To Paper" is finally available online at Interpunk and CDbaby. Both places have already sold out, but they'll be restocked with the quickness. I'm pretty sure you can back-order them so that when they arrive at the stores, they'll ship to you immediately.

You can also just buy the MP3 version of the record from CDbaby if you're the impatient type like me, but I don't think you can get the awesome artwork with it, and trust me, "WE ARE SYNAPSE" did AWESOME artwork for this E.P.

Hopefully, iTunes will have it up soon as well along with all the other MP3 stores online.

Thanks to everybody who bought the record so quickly, you guys are the best!

Your partner in crime,
Adam

Where Is The New E.P.? - March 30, 2009

If you can't find "Return To Paper" online yet, there IS a reason. Here's the situation...

We didn't get our CD's back from the pressing plant until 10:00 AM the DAY OF our record release show. It didn't give us any time at all to get them to the internet stores for the release date. All the records have been sent out now, and the different companies (CDbaby, Interpunk, Tarnius, iTunes etc.) should have them posted within a few days. The second they're online, I'll be posting a shit-ton of blogs and bulletins, worry you not.

Very sorry about the delay! TRUST ME, if there was ANYTHING I could've done to have it in your hands right now, I would've done the shit out of it. Imagine being in the band about to release a record and hearing from the pressing plant that there were "issues" with the disc and that you'll be receiving the CD's the morning of the release show. ugh...

On the up stroke, we are slowly recovering from what was the most intense show we've ever been a part of. We had SUCH a rad time at Cafe Metro with all of our home town friends and family. To everyone that came out, ESPECIALLY those from out of state, we cannot thank you enough. That night was pure energy and you have made the past three years totally worth it for us.

I'm really at a loss for words at this point. Everyone has given us so many incredible compliments and I can't even come up with a proper way to thank you. Just please know that you mean the world to us.

Your friend,
Adam

Shit-Luck Bum-Outs - March 4, 2009

So the past two days have been a total bum-out. Yesterday, I got a message from John from "Ja Moustache Eddies" informing me that the promoter of "The Fire" in Philly double-booked the March 13th show. Apparently the other show was booked first, which means that we had to get bumped. Lame-o numero uno...

THEN, this morning I got an email from my friend Frank Denara who has been running the Corner Pocket in Blairsville, PA for it's entire existence, breaking the news that he's selling the venue and the new owner doesn't want to carry over the shows. So again, we get bumped.

I tried to find replacement venues in both areas and have failed, due to the fact that the shows are just a week or two away. Rather than be a total dumper about all of this, I'm just going to stay positive. I'm now even more eager than I was previously about our OFFICIAL record release show at Cafe Metropolis in Wilkes-Barre, PA on March 28th.

To anyone who was planning to attend the other shows, I offer my apologies for our shared shit-luck. I know it's a good hike from Philly and especially the Pittsburgh area, but if you want to catch NSP in our record release glory, it looks like Cafe Metro is your opportunity. I can't stress enough how awesome this show is going to be, especially now that we'll have all that pent up energy that we're saving from NOT playing the other shows.

See you in Wilkes-Barre,
Adam

Finish Who You Are And Then Return To Paper - February 20, 2009

About three years ago we had just got back from our first tour ever. A week-long adventure to Tallahassee, Florida and back. We lost money, caught the flu, made some fans and lived through some of the most unforgettable experiences I have ever had.

Later that year we joined the Mad Conductor on several tours all around the country. Those three journeys proved to be even more incredible than the first. I could write for days telling you about those trips and still wouldn't do the experiences any justice.

I remember when I was a fourteen year old kid listening to Rancid records in my bedroom and dreaming of being just like Tim Armstrong. Traveling with my best friends and playing the music that I loved to anybody who would listen. Even though, we all get doubtful of ourselves sometimes, I never lost sight of that dream.

Maybe being just like Tim wasn't EXACTLY what I dreamt of, but the basic principles of that perceived lifestyle. Being a free spirit, in a kick ass band and traveling around the world with my best friends.

It baffles me how much you can achieve when you keep your eyes on what you want and keep moving forward no matter what stands in your way. I know that sounds quirky, but ever since I started hanging out with Joey Conrad from up the street, we always talked about how one day we'd go to California with our own band. In 2007, I saw the Pacific Ocean face to face, for the first time in my life...standing on Laguna Beach with The No Service Project.

To say that I was inspired by the past eight years of my life would be such a drastic understatement. The places I have been and the things I have seen outweigh most people my age. As I insist that I am not bragging, I totally am.

I LOVE what I do.

I LIVE for what I do.

This band is what I do.

I could not do any of this without YOU. I don't mean YOU as a group of people, I mean YOU as in YOU yourself. Reading this; learning about our band. Listening to our music as you read news on our website. Coming to our shows. Buying tee shirts. Buying songs on iTunes. Buying full records from Interpunk. Telling your friends about us. Making YouTube videos of yourself, dancing to our songs or playing along on guitar.

You make it possible, for me to do what I love. For that I can never thank you enough.

In honor of you, my friend, I would like to dedicate...

"RETURN TO PAPER"

Your friend,
Adam
